COMMODORES UPDATE: WALLEYE STOCKING IN WOLF LAKE - TRANSIENT PIER REMOVAL - DREDGING

TO:   All WRBC Members

SUBJECTS:  WALLEYE STOCKING IN WOLF LAKE - TRANSIENT PIER REMOVAL - DREDGING

RE:    WALLEYE STOCKING IN WOLF LAKE

I was informed by Perch America that again this fall there will be another stocking of walleye fingerlings. This will occur Saturday, November 13, 2021 at approximately 11AM.  They are intending to release 5,000 new baby walleye at the pier behind the pavilion at Wolf Lake.  Anyone who would like to go and observe and possibly participate is more than welcome.  The WRBC also donates money each year to these stockings.

__________________________________________________________________________

RE:    TRANSIENT PIER REMOVAL

I spoke with the City of Whiting's Joe Franko several days ago about the removal of the floating transient piers and gang plank. He said his plans are to have these removed by sometime next week.  This year they will be stacked closer by the life guard station.

__________________________________________________________________________

RE:    DREDGING

I also spoke with Joe Franko about the future plans on dredging.  As you can see now, the sands are above water level.  He informed me that all the paper work is in place to be done this coming Spring 2022. If anything changes he said he would let me know so that we can stay informed.

__________________________________________________________________________

See you all in January at the 2022 Election Dinner which will be held at the Whiting's American Legion, Post 80.  More information to follow at a later date.

Thank you for another great year and Happy Holidays.

We could use 8 to 10 Volunteers to help set up and peel corn, etc. beginning around 11AM.
If you are willing to volunteer, meet us at the Boat Club building. As always we will be asking for Members to hang around to help with clean up and putting away of chairs, tables, food, sweeping of floors, clean kitchen, etc. We can no longer do this all on our own.

COMMODORES UPDATE: NEW WHITING PARK HOURS FOR WRBC MEMBERS IS 5AM TO 8PM - NEW GUTTERS ON CLUB BUILDING

TO:    ALL 2021 WRBC MEMBERS

RE:    NEW WHITING PARK HOURS FOR WRBC MEMBERS IS 5AM TO 8PM

I have been informed by the City of Whiting Park Superintendent the following:

1-    If boat club members are in the building and parked at the designated boat club parking spots in the lot across from the building OR if members are parked on the concrete driveway pad on the side of the club building, the boat club members are fine being parked there.  But boat club members have to be out of the park by 8PM.

NOTE:    I have requested to the City of Whiting that our designated parking area spots be secured for our club members to park in. This message will be relayed to the parking patrol and security of the park.

2-    If boat club members have a boat out in the water and trailers are in the parking lot, they are fine, but boat club members have to be out of the water and park by 8PM.

3-    The only trouble boat club members will have is during the chaos of park security trying to close up the park by getting the public out of the park between the hours of 6PM-7PM and boat club members are still trying to come into the parking lot.  It's to crazy for security to distinguish boat club members from non club members.  So, please make sure that all current boat club members carry their 2021 WRBC Membership Card to help security distinguish who is an actual WRBC member and who is not.

4-    Gates should generally be open from around 5AM to 8PM for boat club members.

5-    As in the past, if you are asked for what ever reason to exit the park, please do not get in an argument with the city officials, just comply.  Bring it to my attention & I will bring it to the attention of the Park Superintendent.

RE:    NEW GUTTERS ON CLUB BUILDING

Anyone who has been to the boat club building recently may have noticed the old gutters have been removed and have been replaced with new far sturdier gutters.  Hopefully this will resolve the leaking gutter issues.

Thank you all for your cooperation in the above matters.  We are trying our best to get back to normal.
Your patience is appreciated.

 TO:    BOAT CLUB MEMBERS

SUBJECTS:    PASSING OF AL SMALUK & DONATION MADE IN MEMORY OF FLO BRINGAS

For those of you who were at our Election Dinner last month Tuesday, February 23, 2021,we did a moment of silence for all who had passed away in the year 2020.  We will now start a new tradition of trying to post these passing's on our website as they occur.
_____________________________________________________________

RE:    PASSING OF AL SMALUK

Let me share with you all the passing of one of our founding members of the Whiting-Robertsdale Boat Club (WRBC) Al Smaluk.  Al passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at his residence.  Al was one of the original few who saw the value in having a club such as ours.  He and several others started the Whiting-Robertsdale Boat Club (WRBC) on July 1, 1941.  Al served for a number of years as the WRBC Commodore and thereafter as WRBC Treasurer for many years.  He will be truly missed by any and all who knew him.

Details on the wake and service:

RE:    DONATION MADE IN MEMORY OF FLO BRINGAS

Flo Bringas was a WRBC Member and had also passed away.  As we always do, a $50 donation was given in her name from the Boat Club. Her partner and WRBC Member, Melinda Rayter, matched that amount with another $50 given to Pets N Vets in Flo's name.

Again, from this day forward we will honor names of those who have passed from our club as we are informed and announced onto the WRBC website.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who have lost loved ones in the past.

Thank You.

RE:   2021 BOAT CLUB DUES PAYMENT & 3-30-3021 MEETING AT AMERICAN LEGION POST 80

I know that there has been a lot of stress in the last year with the Covid Virus.  We did give everyone a break last year for those who had not paid their dues. This is now a new year and we are on the downswing of this virus. For any and all who want to continue to be members of the Whiting-Robertsdale Boat Club, I am letting you know that your dues are to be submitted by April 1, 2021.  We, as in the past, will extend this to July 1, 2021. After that you will lose your membership.  As of this date we have only received 76 paid membership dues out of 165 members. I am asking you sincerely to please get your dues paid within the next 2 months.  You can pay your dues at our upcoming meeting on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 again to be held at the American Legion, Post 80, 2003 Indianapolis Blvd., Whiting, IN at 7PM.

Once your dues are paid, as in the past, you will need to obtain your Whiting Park parking sticker. You can obtain this sticker at Whiting City Hall from 8:30AM to 12:30PM. Please see Adi Cruz at the front office. The future of our clubs sustainability depends on you all.

Sometime in April, Adi Cruz' office will relocated to the Whiting Parks, Whihala Beach.

When her office moves, you will have to obtain the stickers at her new office location.  More information to come.

I can't stress enough how important it is that you get your dues payments to us.  As in the past, you can also mail your dues to Bob Mehok, 9838 Redbud Road, Munster, IN 46321 OR to WRBC, P. O. COMMODORES UPDATE: RESCHEDULED ELECTION DINNER 2021 AND UPCOMING MONTHLY MEETING

 TO:    All WRBC Members

RE:    RESCHEDULED ELECTION DINNER WILL BE ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2021 AT 6PM

There was a special meeting called for the WRBC Board of Directors and Officers to meet on Saturday, January 16, 2021.  It was decided at this meeting to postpone the yearly Election Dinner 2021, which would of been held this Month, January.

The Election Dinner 2021 will now be rescheduled to the last Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 6PM, do to the ongoing issues with the Coronavirus.

The February Election Dinner 2021 will be held at Whiting's American Legion, Post 80 across from Walgreens on the corner of Indianapolis Boulevard.  It will begin at 6PM.  Everyone is encouraged to follow safety guidelines of social distancing and wearing a mask.  Adi Cruz, City of Whiting, Superintendent of Parks has again graciously offered to attend the meeting so that you may pick up your Whiting Parking Stickers after you have paid your WRBC 2021 Membership dues.

For anyone who does not know Adi Cruz, has been promoted to City of Whiting, Superintendent of the Parks and is now our single contact for the City.  She has informed me that she will do everything she can to work with us in the future.
_____________________________________________________________________

RE:    UPCOMING MONTHLY MEETING, TUESDAY, JANUARY 26, 2021 AT 7PM AT WRBC BUILDING

Since there will be "NO" Election Dinner in January, we have decided to have a regular monthly meeting instead at the end of this Month on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 7PM, to be held at our Boat Club building.  Dues can also be paid at this meeting but Whiting Parking Stickers will not be available.

We are planning to hold a meeting with the new Mayor of the City of Whiting, Steve Spebar, in the very near future, to determine our next 5 years rental status and acquiring our long standing 24/7 access to Whiting Park, the boat launch and our facility.  You will be updated on the results of that meeting.
_____________________________________________________________________

You will be receiving a letter in the mail soon with information regarding the above events.  Unfortunately we continue to lose members to our club.  I don't know if this is do to the effects of the virus or not.  If you have not paid last years dues, you will be receiving a special notice from WRBC Treasurer, Bob Mehok waiving any kind of penalties to continue your membership for 2021.  We need to maintain a solid membership in order for this club to remain solvent.

I hope to see you all at the regular January Meeting 2021 and at the rescheduled February Election Dinner 2021, as there has been some changes to the Board of Directors.

I hope everyone had a good Holiday Season and a Happy New Year.  Let's all hope that the year 2021 is a far better one than last year proved to be.

Thank you and hope to see you soon,

Mike Hill
