Subject:    Boat Launch

Good morning,
Just an update on the boat launch –
One slip will be open, vehicles must use the “exit” to enter and exit the parking lot. Please be mindful that next week they will be removing the sand beginning Wednesday, so there may be another interruption in the use of the launch at that time. I will do my best to keep you informed ~ but always feel free to call here or have your boat club members call to check the status.

Thanks,
Ann

RE:     BOAT LAUNCH IS OPEN

The Hammond Marina is now CLOSED to us for free launching, of course unless you are a Hammond Resident.

Our Boat Launch is now OPEN for business, the dredging is completed. For now please use the shorter launch, which is the North launch.

Only use the exit access to launch and to exit the facility for now.

The slips are off limits until they get the barge out of the water.

The channel leading to the lake is approximate 5 foot deep and about 30 foot wide at the choke point. The harbor area is deeper, 8-10 feet. The City will mark the lane with port and starboard buoys on either Tuesday, May 22, 2018 or Wednesday, May 23, 2018 as they did last year.

RE:    PARKING STICKERS

Please have your WRBC parking stickers displayed on your windshield or you may be towed.

RE:    SANDBAGS

Keep in mind the sandbags are going to be emptied at some point in the next week or two. When this occurs, you will not be able to launch.  Please comply with the City's request.

RE:    VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

There are sign up sheets at the boat club for the Kids Fishing Day Outing and the upcoming Jet Ski Race on August 4 & 5, 2018.

If you are available please sign up for one or both.  We definitely need volunteers for both events especially the Kids Fishing Day

Outing to be held on June 2, 2018 from 9AM to 12 Noon at the Hammond Marina.

Thank you in Advance.

UPDATES: BOAT INSPECTIONS - WEATHER BUG CAMERA - FLAG POLE & DREDGING

WRBC MEMBERS:

RE:    BOAT INSPECTIONS

I would like to thank everyone who volunteered to be at the boat club for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Boat Inspection. We had approximately 15 to 17 boats that showed up for inspection. The Auxiliary left us a tremendous amount of material about boat safety that is available to you currently inside the boat club. Please help yourself to any of this material that you find important.

RE:   WEATHER BUG CAMERA

The Mayor has given us access to this camera. It shows not only the launch, but a view of the lake so that you can view live streaming video of what the current conditions that are occurring on Lake Michigan from your home. Please go to the boat clubs website and view this feature by tapping on the Live Camera Tab. This feature will save you a trip to the launch by viewing the live stream conditions of the lake, which may be unfavorable or unsafe to be on.

In addition, the Weather Station Tab has been updated to view the current weather conditions broken down in the upper section with tabs, (Ex.: Weather, Wind, Rain, Sunshine, Warnings, Radar, Satellite & Synoptic) and much more. Scroll down a bit further and you will see a wind alert indicator showing the direction of the wind in relation to the lake and it's strength. The color of the background indicates the current speed of the wind, click the 'legend' button for details on the background color. Also, scroll just a bit further down and there are live NOAA marine alerts for the area including Small Craft advisories and anything else currently active. This should be more than enough information to help you make a safe trip out.

If there is anything else you feel might be helpful, please don't hesitate to let me know or send an email direct to wrboatclub@gmail.com

You can all thank Norm Tartt our website designer for working on this feature.

RE:    FLAG POLE

Our flag pole that was promised by the City has been installed. Jack Benko and myself have raised the American Flag and the P.O.W. Flag. American Legion, Post 80 in Whiting has generously donated both flags free of cost. The Legion will also conduct a flag raising ceremony, with a 21 gun salute in honor of our Veterans who have served in all wars. The date is yet to be determined. I will inform everyone of the date when this will take place.

RE:    DREDGING

Dredging is still on going and should be completed within the next couple weeks. As agreed, all members have the ability to launch for free at the Hammond Marina. A thank you to Milan, as he has always provided us with access to his facility.

Thank You All,
Mike Hill
