RE: Boat Club Member Mik Wisniewski

TO ALL

Mik Wisniewski's health has deteriorated.
He is now on oxygen due to lung complications.
I am sure he would appreciate a quick phone call or a get well card.
He has been a long time boat club member and for those who are newer members and did not know him,
he was our cook for years when we did not have food catered.

Please take a moment out of your busy lives to wish him well.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Mik.

DREDGING POSTPONED - NEW SHED ASSEMBLY VOLUNTEERS - LAST MEETING OF THE YEAR - ELECTION DINNER JANUARY 2019

WRBC MEMBERS:

RE:    DREDGING DATE CHANGE

I was informed on 9-27-2018 by Bruce Stolman that the dredging at the harbor will be postponed until October 10, 2018 do to inability to obtain certain parts for the dredge. Once the dredging begins, the docks will be closed. The dredging should only take a couple weeks so bear with it.

I have attempted to contact Milan at the Hammond Marina and have not heard back from him.
So please do not assume that you can launch at the Hammond Marina for free at this time.

RE:    NEW SHED ASSEMBLY - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Bob and I picked up the shed 9-27-2018 and delivered it to the boat club building. Once the ground is leveled out, we will definitely need some strong backed volunteers to help with the assembly. The shed is extremely heavy. I will let everyone know when we are ready to start the assembly project.

RE:    LAST MEETING IN OCTOBER 2018

Just a reminder that the last boat club meeting this year will be on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 @ 7PM.

For all the new members, keep in mind that just because we are not meeting in November or December does not mean the building is closed. Boat Club Members still have 24/7 access to the building and launch.

RE:    ELECTION DINNER 2019

Hope to see you all in January 2019 at the Election Dinner which will be held at the Whiting American Legion Post 80 on the corner across from Walgreens on Indianapolis Boulevard as we have always held there in the past.

Per Management, please do not park in the Walgreens Parking Lot or your vehicle will be towed away.

More information will follow in the future regarding this event.

Thank you for your cooperation in these matters.

RE: DREDGING & CLOSED LAUNCH

MEMBERS:

I was informed by the City of Whiting, Bruce Stolman that the City will begin to dredge the Whiting-Robertsdale Harbor this coming Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018.

This will last until close to the end of October. The launch facility will be closed during this time as it was in the Spring of this year.

I have contacted Milan from the Port Authority at the Hammond Marina to obtain the OK for our membership to launch there free of charge.

I am still waiting on his response.  I don't feel this will be a problem as he has accommodated us in the past.

WRBC Members:

The South Shore Beer Fest has been cancelled by the city, so please disregard the previous post with the details.

In it's place the city has decided to go ahead with dredging the boat launch again and based on current information this will start this coming Wednesday Sept 26th and go through the end of November. So during this time the boat launch will be closed. Once we have more details we will send out another alert. Milan from Hammond is being contacted for permission to launch from there, once we hear back from him another alert will be sent out.

SUBJECTS: 2018 JET SKI RACE SCHEDULE, PARKING LOT & WRBC BUILDING - WEATHER BUG - BUILDING KEY PAD - BENDING OF GAME CARDS/RAFFLE STUBS

MEMBERS:

RE:    2018 P1 AQUA X JET SKI RACE SCHEDULE, PARKING LOT & WRBC BUILDING

This year we have been informed that our services will not be required for any assistance in this race, nor will our building be needed for the P1 Aqua X Jet Ski Race. Thank you for anyone who had signed up to volunteer.  But our services this year will not be needed.

If you want to come and enjoy the race, keep in mind that the parking area and launch will be inaccessible. So you will have to park outside and walk in.  As a member you can still use the building, but do not allow any non members access.

P1 Aqua X Jet Ski Race Event Schedule.
Please click on website below.

RE:    WEATHER BUG

It appears that our weather bug is operational again. You may have to go on several times to activate it.

RE:    BUILDING KEY PAD

Our key pad lock to the front door has been repaired as of Friday, August 3rd, 2018.  It is fully operational.

RE:    BENDING CARDS/RAFFLE TICKETS OR STUBS

A discussion and a vote was taken at our last meeting around removing and disqualifying any bent or folded cards/raffle tickets or stubs used for drawings. The opinion of the membership is that this is taking an unfair advantage and cheating of the membership.

Lets all be fair in all our contests as we are a club based on good faith and morals.

Thanks,
Mike Hill

ALERT: Clubhouse Currently Unavailable

All WRBC Members,

#1 - Please be aware that due to a lightning strike in the vicinity of the clubhouse, the electronic lock on the front door of the clubhouse is not functioning and the clubhouse will not be accessible to anyone until after Wednesday 7/25 when the locksmith is scheduled to come out and fix it.

#2 - Also due to the lightning strike, the camera that provides the feed of the boat launch to our website was affected and is currently not broadcasting. The city has been informed and we are waiting on a response.

Please be aware that the City of Whiting owns/maintains this camera and has given us access to view the camera and our website is simply relaying that for our use. We have no control whatsoever over this camera and can only report to the city when it is not working and wait for them to fix it.

Thank you

Subject:    Boat Launch

Good morning,
Just an update on the boat launch –
One slip will be open, vehicles must use the “exit” to enter and exit the parking lot. Please be mindful that next week they will be removing the sand beginning Wednesday, so there may be another interruption in the use of the launch at that time. I will do my best to keep you informed ~ but always feel free to call here or have your boat club members call to check the status.

Thanks,
Ann

RE:     BOAT LAUNCH IS OPEN

The Hammond Marina is now CLOSED to us for free launching, of course unless you are a Hammond Resident.

Our Boat Launch is now OPEN for business, the dredging is completed. For now please use the shorter launch, which is the North launch.

Only use the exit access to launch and to exit the facility for now.

The slips are off limits until they get the barge out of the water.

The channel leading to the lake is approximate 5 foot deep and about 30 foot wide at the choke point. The harbor area is deeper, 8-10 feet. The City will mark the lane with port and starboard buoys on either Tuesday, May 22, 2018 or Wednesday, May 23, 2018 as they did last year.

RE:    PARKING STICKERS

Please have your WRBC parking stickers displayed on your windshield or you may be towed.

RE:    SANDBAGS

Keep in mind the sandbags are going to be emptied at some point in the next week or two. When this occurs, you will not be able to launch.  Please comply with the City's request.

RE:    VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

There are sign up sheets at the boat club for the Kids Fishing Day Outing and the upcoming Jet Ski Race on August 4 & 5, 2018.

If you are available please sign up for one or both.  We definitely need volunteers for both events especially the Kids Fishing Day

Outing to be held on June 2, 2018 from 9AM to 12 Noon at the Hammond Marina.

Thank you in Advance.

UPDATES: BOAT INSPECTIONS - WEATHER BUG CAMERA - FLAG POLE & DREDGING

WRBC MEMBERS:

RE:    BOAT INSPECTIONS

I would like to thank everyone who volunteered to be at the boat club for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Boat Inspection. We had approximately 15 to 17 boats that showed up for inspection. The Auxiliary left us a tremendous amount of material about boat safety that is available to you currently inside the boat club. Please help yourself to any of this material that you find important.

RE:   WEATHER BUG CAMERA

The Mayor has given us access to this camera. It shows not only the launch, but a view of the lake so that you can view live streaming video of what the current conditions that are occurring on Lake Michigan from your home. Please go to the boat clubs website and view this feature by tapping on the Live Camera Tab. This feature will save you a trip to the launch by viewing the live stream conditions of the lake, which may be unfavorable or unsafe to be on.

In addition, the Weather Station Tab has been updated to view the current weather conditions broken down in the upper section with tabs, (Ex.: Weather, Wind, Rain, Sunshine, Warnings, Radar, Satellite & Synoptic) and much more. Scroll down a bit further and you will see a wind alert indicator showing the direction of the wind in relation to the lake and it's strength. The color of the background indicates the current speed of the wind, click the 'legend' button for details on the background color. Also, scroll just a bit further down and there are live NOAA marine alerts for the area including Small Craft advisories and anything else currently active. This should be more than enough information to help you make a safe trip out.

If there is anything else you feel might be helpful, please don't hesitate to let me know or send an email direct to wrboatclub@gmail.com

You can all thank Norm Tartt our website designer for working on this feature.

RE:    FLAG POLE

Our flag pole that was promised by the City has been installed. Jack Benko and myself have raised the American Flag and the P.O.W. Flag. American Legion, Post 80 in Whiting has generously donated both flags free of cost. The Legion will also conduct a flag raising ceremony, with a 21 gun salute in honor of our Veterans who have served in all wars. The date is yet to be determined. I will inform everyone of the date when this will take place.

RE:    DREDGING

Dredging is still on going and should be completed within the next couple weeks. As agreed, all members have the ability to launch for free at the Hammond Marina. A thank you to Milan, as he has always provided us with access to his facility.

Thank You All,
Mike Hill
